- Visit of the month! Chartwell House
This months visit of the month is the beautiful Chartwell House, a National Trust Treasure. Chartwell House was once home to Sir Winston Churchill and his family but it's now a delight for the public to enjoy. Situated in Kent, An Outstanding Area of Natural Beauty, there is no wonder why this beautiful home is our visit of the month. Whether you're planning a visit as a family, couple or a solo explorer, this visit will leave you feeling, educated, fulfilled and peaceful (what more can you ask for?). The grounds Once you've entered through the gates, you will see perfectly cut grounds which are vast and home to plenty of ponds and we mean plenty! You can stroll over to the walled garden which is home to a working kitchen as well as see walls which were built by Sir Winston Churchill himself. After you can explore the woodlands and take a walk around the estate and lakes which provides a beautiful scenery all year round. There's also a children's play area including a treehouse, bomb crater and Canadian Camp. The House The house itself is spectacular and full of character but the interior is incredibly special. In comparison to some National Trust houses, this really is a "home" which is filled with treasures, gifts and personal belongings. The interior design was way ahead of it's time and it' truly captures the life Churchill and his wife led. The front room will lead you onto a truly special rose garden terrace, designed by Lady Churchill. It has the most amazing views over the countryside which you won't want to leave. Once you've finished at the house, you can make your way down to the studio which is home to the largest single collection of Sir Winston Churchill's paintings. This is a must visit and some of you may be surprised to see how well he painted! Landmare Cafe The cafe is dotted outside the visitor centre and has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. They have fresh food and gluten free options, but we would recommend getting in there early so that you can have a wide variety of options. If it's a summer's day we would recommend bringing a pic'nik and setting up on the grounds which overlook the ponds, as this truly is special. Staff The staff are absolutely exceptional! They are incredibly welcoming and have a profound amount of knowledge. No question is a silly question and they make such an effort to be as engaging and helpful as possible. Facilities The carpark is £4.40 for non National Trust members and the WC is very clean. There is also a bookshop, plant shop and gift shop on site. Dogs are allowed and there is audio guide availability too . Evidently, this is a must visit. With plenty to do whatever your purpose, it's an enjoyable day out and one you won't regret!
